The
tournament where every player is a WINNER!
In the spring of 1993, Hank Ford, with the help of a few friends, organized
the first Bionic Invitational Golf Tournament with the only one requirement
being a surgically replaced joint.
The first tournament
had only sixteen players all from Aiken, S.C., and the surrounding area.
The Tournament caught the attention of local and national media as calls
from all over the country poured in requesting additional information, thus
"The Bionic Invitational Golf Tournament" was born.
In 1996, ninety-two participants representing sixteen states "hacked and
hobbled" their way over the Houndslake Country Club grounds. Today's participant
qualifications have expanded to include amputees and all types of prosthetics,
as well as, replaced joints. We thank Hank Ford for his leadership. The
new chairmanship is now headed by Jerry Grisham with a strong working committee
which includes Nina Szymonski, Flo Holford, Sue Shannon, Paula Moore, Henry
& Mary Ellen Krippner, Webb Heine, Dan Lentz, and Mr. & Mrs. Arthur
Bremer.
Special contests such as, closest to the pin, longest drive, etc. make the
tournament even more exciting. Even if you don't qualify to play we'd love
to have you come out and be a part of the gallery.
We gladly accept sponsorships of holes and other prizes and each year our
tournament has grown in size and popularity. Some previous sponsors include:
Aiken Regional Medical Centers, Carolina Orthopedic Associates, and many
more.
This year's tournament brought 45 players from 9 different states plus one
player from Canada. Browse some photos from the tournament
below.
THE 2004 BIONIC GOLF TOURNAMENT IS IN THE WORKS AND
LOOKING AT A DIFFERENT GOLF COURSE IN THE LATTER PART OF SEPTEMBER.
The only requirement is that you have a replaced joint, such as hip,
knee, etc. The tournament is open to all new-comers. Also, qualifications
have been expanded to include amputees and all types of prosthetics.
