Myelograms
A myelogram is an x-ray procedure, which visualizes the spinal canal and nerve roots surrounding the spinal cord. A cervical myelogram concentrates on the portion of the spinal canal in the neck. A thoracic myelogram concentrates on the upper back and a lumbar myelogram concentrates on the lower back. Myelograms are performed primarily to diagnose and localize herniated (slipped) discs. A myelogram is often done in conjunction with other exams, such as CT scans and/or MRI scans, because each exam contributes a different type of information.
